How is colonic irrigation performed?

1. The client has a full consultation with a professional therapist. Ensure your therapist is trained and part of a recognised organisation. The largest colonic organisation is IACT - International Association of Colon Hydrotherapists. Some colon hydrotherapists are nurse qualified. Some are not. Ask your therapist what their colonic irrigation training consists of. |

2. Once the client is ready to proceed, they will be given the opportunity to undress in privacy and to get onto the colonic irrigation equipment. The client will be lying in a supine position (on their back) with their head supported comfortably. They may be covered by a blanket or a towel. |

The therapist will check that the colonic tube is in place. It will be inserted approximately 1.5 inches into the rectum. This can be done by the client or by the therapist. But the therapist will always check to ensure it is in place correctly. The tube is only the size of a small pen. It is approximately 5mm in diameter.

Wam purified water is gently infused into the colon.The water causes old dry matter to moisten and to loosen in the bowel. When the client is ready they release the water. The therapist may massage the abdomin to enable the water to move around the colon and to help water matter to move. |

The matter is taken away in the water down a tube and the procedure continues until the colon is clear. The water is washed away around the side of the small tube which is sitting in the colon. The tube stays in place. The treatment is comfortable and relaxing. |
